Rain emergency declared in Islamabad and Rawalpindi after heavy downpours

(Web Desk): Islamabad and Rawalpindi have declared a rain emergency following heavy downpours in various areas.

According to the Managing Director (MD) of WASA, over 80 millimeters of rain has been recorded in the twin cities so far.

A WASA spokesperson stated that 90 mm of rain was recorded in Saidpur, 80 mm in Shamsabad, and 55 mm in Katarian. Additionally, Golra received 30 mm, Bokra 32 mm, and 55 mm was recorded at PMD (Pakistan Meteorological Department).

The spokesperson added that WASA is on high alert following the weather department’s forecast, and a rain emergency has been officially imposed.

The WASA MD said that staff and heavy machinery have been deployed in low-lying areas, and constant monitoring of Nullah Lai and other city drains is underway.

He further reported that the water level in Nullah Lai is 10 feet at Katarian and 6 feet at Gawalmandi Bridge.

According to the Meteorological Department, there is a likelihood of heavy rainfall today in Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
