It has been proposed that electricity consumption up to 301 units be declared under the non-protected category

Lahore: There is good news for electricity consumers as a proposal has been put forward to increase the number of protected units.
According to sources in the Ministry of Energy, members of the National Assembly raised concerns over consumers receiving an additional bill of Rs5,000 for using 201 units, and informed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif about the injustice being done to the public.
Sources say that a new proposal suggests raising the threshold from 201 to 301 units for applying additional charges.
It has been proposed that electricity consumption up to 301 units be declared under the non-protected category, instead of starting at 201 units.
Sources further indicate that a high-level committee may be formed to review the matter of protected and non-protected electricity consumers. The committee may recommend that the non-protected tariff be applied to those consuming more than 300 units instead of the current 201-unit threshold.
