‘Country currently has ample reserves and no further imports are necessary’

Islamabad: The government has decided to halt further sugar imports.
According to official sources, a review of sugar stocks was conducted at the Ministry of National Food Security, during which it was decided not to proceed with any additional sugar imports.
Officials stated that the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) will not import more sugar, as the country currently has ample reserves and no further imports are necessary.
The authorities confirmed that sugar imports will be limited to the existing agreements for 300,000 metric tons.
They added that orders for the 300,000 metric tons have already been placed, and instructions have been issued to TCP not to enter into any new import deals.
It is worth noting that the government had earlier decided to import 500,000 tons of sugar.
