Govt rejects proposal to increase prices of petroleum products
Islamabad: Prime Minister Imran Khan has rejected a proposal to increase the prices of petroleum products.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), the Finance Ministry had proposed an increase of Rs 5.5 per liter on petrol and diesel, but the Prime Minister rejected the summary of increase in the public interest.
A notification has been issued to maintain the prices of petroleum products from November 16. Moreover, the Prime Minister has directed that the matter of adjustment of sales tax be referred to the Cabinet.
It is pertinent to remember that on November 5, the government had announced an increase in the prices of petroleum products, due to which the petroleum products had reached the highest level in the history of the country.
According to the notification of the Ministry of Finance, the price of petrol was increased by Rs 8.3, after which the new price of petrol was increased from Rs 137.79 to Rs 145.82.
The price of high-speed diesel was increased by Rs 8.14, after which its price was increased from Rs 134.48 to Rs 142.62.
