Rawalpindi: Following to spike in coronavirus case, 14 more educational institutions were sealed on Friday after 45 students and employees were found infected with COVID-19 cases.

According to the health department, these educational institutes will remain closed until Feb 7. A notification to this effect was issued by the department.

On Thursdya, fifteen educational institutions were sealed in Rawalpindi after emerging Covid-19 cases in the institutions.

The educational institutions have been sealed due to rising COVID-19 cases in Rawalpindi include four colleges, Garden College and 11 schools. 83 students, teachers and staff of these institutions have been diagnosed with corona virus while these educational institutions will be sealed for 10 days.

On the other hand, Pakistan reported over 7,000 COVID-19 cases in a single day, its highest daily number of infections since June 2020, as country imposed new restrictions to curb the fast-spreading Omicron variant.   

Pakistan has witnessed an enormous spike in its daily tally of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) after as many as 8,183 new infections were logged in the last 24 hours.

Pakistan’s COVID positivity rate now stands at 11.92%. While, the cumulative tally of the country has now climbed to 1,393,887.    

As the fifth wave of COVID-19 intensifies in Pakistan reported 8,183 new coronavirus infections, a new daily record, with authorities linking the spike with the Omicron variant of virus.  

According to the latest figures issued by the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), 8,183 persons were tested positive while 30 died in the past 24 hours— taking Pakistan's COVID death toll to 29,192.     

As many as 1,274,657 patients have recovered from the disease.   

Punjab
The number of patients swelled to 471,925 in the province with 13,132 causalities.

Sindh
The number of infections has surged to 535,965 in the province, while the death toll has reached 7,785.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
The confirmed cases have surged to 189,300 in the province with 5,989 casualties.

Balochistan
There are 34,187 confirmed cases while 367 patients have died from the infection so far.

AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan
There are 36,465 coronavirus cases in the AJK while the death toll has reached 752. On the other hand, there are 10,580 cases in GB with 187 coronavirus deaths.

Islamabad
There are 123,648 cases in the capital city while 979 people have lost their lives.
