Lahore: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) made a significant decision concerning the timing of upcoming elections, the sources said on Tuesday.
The PPP Central Executive Committee (CEC) convened to discuss this matter and ultimately reached a consensus to adopt the policy put forth by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
During the CEC meeting, participants engaged in discussions on the policies of both PPP co-chairman Asif Zardari and his son, Bilawal. Some senior committee members recommended embracing Asif Zardari's conciliatory policy, emphasizing his approach to stabilizing the economy.
However, a majority of CEC members opposed the former president Asif Ali Zardari's stance and expressed a strong inclination to adopt PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto's policy.
The meeting concluded with a firm decision that PPP would not engage in any negotiations regarding the timing of elections. Some members also highlighted the importance of taking a resolute stance in support of timely elections.
The sources familiar with the matter further revealed that CEC members discussed the perceived exposure of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and its leader, Shehbaz Sharif, during their one-and-a-half-year tenure in the government.
It was suggested that PPP could significantly benefit from timely elections, as the general public appears to be holding PML-N accountable for its performance during the coalition government period.
