Karachi: A sharp rebound in food prices is stirring concerns over inflation in the country.

According to details, Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) also noted an increase in prices of sugar, cooking oil, chicken meat, vegetable ghee, rice and bread.

The price of chicken meat has increased by Rs. 40 in three days in Gujranwala and Faisalabad and is selling at Rs. 274.

In Multan, price of sugar sack has been increased by Rs. 200 after which per kg sugar is selling at Rs 92.

On the other hand, government price control committees have failed to control inflation.

Earlier on January 15, government raised petrol price by 3.22 rupees per litre, kerosene by 3 rupees per litre, light diesel oil by 4.42 rupees per litre and high speed diesel by 2.95 rupee per litre.

The government also decided to increase base tariff of distribution companies by Rs. 1.95 per unit.
