Magnitude 6.2 earthquake rattles Taiwan

Taipei: A 6.2-magnitude earthquake struck off Taiwan's eastern coast on Thursday, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).
As per details, the quake hit eastern Taiwan at 12:03pm, with tremors felt in the capital Taipei.
The epicenter of the temblor was 29.1 kilometers southeast of Hualien County Hall, with a shallow focal depth of 5.7 km.
Taiwan uses an intensity scale of one to seven, which gauges the degree to which a quake is felt at a specific location.
The intensity of the quake has been recorded as a 5 in Hualien County and a 4 in Taitung County, Yilan County, Nantou County, Chiayi County, Changhua County, Chiayi City, Taichung City, and Yunlin County.

In 2016, over 100 people were killed in a quake in southern Taiwan, while a 7.3 magnitude quake killed more than 2,000 people in 1999.
