Patient among six killed in ambulance-truck crash in Bangladesh
The officials told that the collision occurred due poor visibility caused by dense fog at 4am.
Dhaka: In an unfortunate incident, at least six people including patient were killed in a road accident when an ambulance hit a truck from behind in Zajira upazila of Shariatpur district on Tuesday.
Rescue and Health officials told that the collision occurred due poor visibility caused by dense fog.
The incident took place at four in the morning.
The victims were identified as Jahanara Begum (55) who was a patient, her daughter Lutfun Nahar Lima (30), health worker Fazle Rabbi (28) from Doshomiya village in Bogura, ambulance driver Jilani (28), helper Rabiul Islam (26) from Khilgaon's Taltala in Dhaka and journalist Masud Rana (30).
Speaking to foreign media agency, Padma Bridge South police station sub-inspector Suruj Mia said, “The Dhaka-bound ambulance from Shibchar was carrying a patient and its relatives when it got hit with a truck loaded with liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from behind while crossing a speed breaker near the toll plaza of Padma Bridge in Zajira losing the control over the steering wheel.”
He added, “The ambulance went under the truck that killed six passengers on the spot”.
The rescue and police officials rushed to the site soon after getting the information and shifted the victims to Zajira Upazila Health Complex, the sub-inspector stated, adding that the bodies will be handed over to their families after due procedures.
