Covid-19: India reports nearly 170,000 cases in biggest-ever single day spike
New Delhi: India has reported nearly 170,000 cases in the biggest-ever single day spike in Covid-19 cases.
According to details, the country has broken all records with a massive spike of 169,899 coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours.
Following the surge, India has once again taken the spot of second-worst hit country with 13,525,364 cases in total.
In terms of active Covid-19 cases, India is now the 4th-worst hit country. The country reported record 904 deaths, taking the overall death toll to 170,209.
Delhi reported 10,732 cases, Mumbai 9,989, Pune 12,377 in the last 24 hours.
Maharashtra, which is said to be the worst-hit state by pandemic recorded over 63,000 new coronavirus cases in its highest ever single-day spike along with 349 deaths.
The five most affected states include Maharashtra with 3,343,951 cases, Kerala with 1,160,204 cases, Karnataka with 1,055,040 cases, Tamil Nadu with 926,816 cases, and Andhra Pradesh with 921,906 cases.
India is presently experiencing the most contagious and deadly wave of coronavirus with record number of cases and fatalities every-day. There are several states in India that are witnessing shortage of oxygen supply, lack of manpower and malfunctioning ventilators, says a report from the Centre. The government has instructed strict enforcement of coronavirus Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Several states are considering imposing complete lockdown to curb the spread of coronavirus.
Overall in the world, the number of coronavirus cases has 136,627,389. While 109,856,896 have recovered, there are around 2,949,142 reported casualties.
The United States (US) remains the worst-hit country with 31,918,591, followed by India, Brazil, France and Russia. However, it terms of the total number of active cases, US leads the chart, followed by France, Brazil, India and Belgium.
