Health experts propose heavy tax on formula milk for children
Pakistan Pediatric Association demanded that the import of formula milk should be banned as it spends $400 million on imported baby formula milk.
Islamabad: Health experts have called for a heavy tax on artificial milk for children.
According to details, an awareness session was organized by the Federal Ministry of Health for the Members of Parliament in which only one Senator Sehar Kamran participated.
Senator Sehar Kamran said: “Like cigarettes, formula milk should also be heavily taxed”.
He added that breastfeeding mothers are ridiculed in public places in Pakistan, there is a need to make strict laws regarding artificial milk for children.
Professor Jamal Raza— a pediatrician and leader of Pakistan Pediatric Association— said that there is no mechanism to check the price and quality of artificial milk for children in Pakistan.

Director General Health Dr. Baseer Achakzai giving the Islamic reference stated that mothers have been ordered to breastfeed their children for two years.
