Electricity prices increase by Rs. 7.50 per unit
The surprising increase in electricity has left the public in awe.
The federal government has increased electricity prices during the dark of the night, raising it to Rs. 7.50 per unit, marking a fundamental tariff hike from Rs. 3 to Rs. 7.50 per unit.
According to media reports, the government unexpectedly raised electricity prices during the nighttime, reaching a staggering Rs. 7.50 per unit.
The proposal for the basic tariff hike from Rs. 3 to Rs. 7.50 per unit was approved via circulation.
NEPRA had already given its consent for the tariff increase for the fiscal year.
Further details reveal that National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has forwarded the proposal for the basic tariff hike, and a decision will be made after the hearing.
Once NEPRA gives its verdict, the federal government will issue the notification for the electricity price hike.
The application of the electricity price hike is proposed to be effective from July 1, 2023.
As per the request, the domestic consumers using 100 units will face a tariff increase of Rs. 3 per unit, while those consuming 101 to 200 units will have to bear a basic tariff increase of Rs. 4 per unit.
For consumers using 201 to 300 units, the proposed increase is Rs. 5 per unit, and for 301 to 400 units, the proposed increase is Rs. 6.50 per unit.
Users consuming 400 to 700 units may face a significant increase of Rs. 7 per unit.
It is pertinent to mention that NEPRA issued a notification two days ago, approving Rs. 1.90 per unit increase in electricity prices for the month of May.
