Google announces May 18 deadline for deleting location history data

(Web Desk): At the end of 2023, Google announced that the Maps location history would be transferred to your phone, after which the timeline data would be deleted. This process is still ongoing, and now Google has announced that all users' timeline data will be deleted by May 18.

Google has confirmed that if users want to preserve their timeline data, they will need to select the new settings. According to the company, the setting changes must be made before May 18.

Previously, Google's data was stored on cloud servers, but in order to improve user privacy, it has now been decided to store it on devices. Your timeline, previously known as location history, will be limited to your phone and cannot be accessed on other devices beyond your personal phone. The web version will also not be available; however, you can back it up or use the device transfer system.

After May 18, all location history on Google Maps stored on cloud servers will be deleted, and any data older than three months stored on devices will also be deleted. If you rely on the Google Maps timeline feature for past trips or favorite memories, you will need to take action to preserve this data.

This means you must download and save location history data older than three months before May 18. After that, all unsaved data will be permanently deleted.
