Greta Gerwig, already celebrated for propelling "Barbie" to become the first solo woman-directed film to exceed $1 billion in global box office earnings, has now achieved the distinction of being the highest-grossing woman director in the domestic market.
Exhibitor Relations, a noted industry analyst, has projected this weekend's earnings for "Barbie" at an impressive $33.7 million, further solidifying its domestic total at an impressive $526 million.
The directorial prowess of Gerwig is currently competing against Jennifer Lee, co-director of Disney's animated sequel "Frozen," in a tight race to be recognized as the highest-grossing woman director of all time in the global box office arena.
Featuring Margot Robbie in the iconic role and with Ryan Gosling portraying Ken, "Barbie" has already amassed a staggering $1.2 billion in worldwide box office revenue.
