Washington:  US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Wednesday extended warm congratulations to Anwarul Haq Kakar on his appointment as Pakistan's caretaker Prime Minister, emphasizing the importance of transparent and inclusive general elections.

In a statement, Secretary Blinken underlined the need for Pakistan to continue its preparations for a fair and open electoral process. He assured the US's commitment to supporting Pakistan's economic development and prosperity.

Highlighting the significance of democratic values, Secretary Blinken emphasized that Pakistan's constitution guarantees the rights of expression and assembly for its citizens.

Earlier, the Department of State's Principal Deputy Spokesperson, Vedant Patel, underscored the shared interests between Pakistan and the United States in countering terrorism and maintaining regional stability. This collaboration is expected to deepen further under the interim government.

Acknowledging the dissolution of the Pakistan National Assembly and government, the spokesperson revealed that Senator Anwarul Haq Kakar had been designated as the caretaker Prime Minister. The United States expressed its readiness to work closely with Pakistan's interim administration to facilitate the upcoming elections, highlighting the importance of a smooth transition.

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar assumed his responsibilities after a solemn oath-taking ceremony. In his early days in office, the caretaker premier prioritized comprehensive briefings from various ministries to ensure a comprehensive understanding of crucial matters.

The selection of Senator Anwarul Haq Kakar as Pakistan's caretaker Prime Minister was a result of collective consultation, with Prime Minister Shehbaz and Riaz extending their advice on Kakar's appointment to President Alvi.

This significant development reflects the commitment of both Pakistan and the United States to collaborate on key issues, including counterterrorism and the promotion of democratic processes.
