Gavaskar lauds Pakistan formidable new ball attack in cricket world

New Dehli: Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar said that Pakistan has formidable new ball attack in the world of cricket at the present times.

Gavaskar acknowledged that historically, Australia and Pakistan had often competed for the top positions when it came to the strength of their new ball bowling attacks.  He expressed these words while talking to a local Indian TV.

Gavaskar's assertion stems from the exceptional performances of Pakistan's pace trio comprising Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, and Naseem Shah, who had been setting the Asia Cup 2023 ablaze with their extraordinary skills. In terms of wickets taken during the tournament, Rauf leads the pack with an impressive tally of 9 scalps, closely trailed by Naseem Shah and Shaheen Afridi, each with 7 wickets to their name.

He went on to highlight the diversity of Pakistan's bowling attack, featuring both left-arm and right-arm bowlers who can effectively swing the ball in both directions at a brisk pace. This combination, Gavaskar noted, makes it a challenging prospect for any batsman to adopt an aggressive stance right from the outset of their innings against Pakistan's formidable pace battery.

Gavaskar remarked, "At one point in time, it was Australia and Pakistan probably sharing the number 1 and number 2 spots because Pakistan has always had top-class new-ball bowlers. But at this juncture, they possess the most formidable new-ball attack in the game.”
