Police officer injured in alleged hit-and-run by official's son in Karachi

Karachi: A police officer sustained severe injuries after being allegedly struck by a vehicle reportedly belonging to the son of a serving government official in Karachi on Tuesday.

The episode came to light upon the assumption of office by the new Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) South, Sajid Saduzai, who promptly registered a case against the accused.

The victim, Police Officer Mukhtiyar Ahmed, was gravely wounded in the accident that occurred on December 19, 2023, within the Sahil Police Station limits in Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Phase 8.

Despite the incident happening nearly two weeks ago, a case had not been registered initially, purportedly due to the influence of the former interim SSP and senior officers.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed based on the victim’s complaint, Police Officer Ahmed recounted that on the night of the incident, he noticed a "suspicious vehicle" parked in the dark. The occupant, identified as Wasim Shamshad, introduced himself as the son of the Secretary of Revenue in Sindh.

Ahmed stated that upon approaching the vehicle and initiating a search, he was obstructed by the owner. The situation escalated as the boy allegedly verbally abused and struck the officer by reversing his vehicle at high speed, causing severe injuries.

In his complaint, Ahmed asserted that he lost consciousness due to the collision, resulting in multiple fractures in both legs and one hand. The suspect fled the scene, leaving the injured officer unattended.

SSP South Sajid Saduzai confirmed that the injured police officer is currently undergoing treatment at Civil Hospital.
