Lahore:  The Punjab chief secretary of Punjab on Saturday submitted a comprehensive response to the Supreme Court which took up the plea of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) seeking level-playing field for upcoming general elections.

The top court had sought contempt proceedings.

In its report, the Punjab chief secretary said that the Punjab government is dedicated to take all necessary measures to ensure the conduction of peaceful and transparent elections. The report detailed the communication of directives from the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to all district returning officers (DROs) for implementation.

It was emphasized in the response that instructions had been issued to DROs and other officers to facilitate the submission of nomination papers by all candidates without any fear or threat. The response underscored a commitment to taking strict action against any individuals obstructing the nomination paper filing process.

The chief secretary further highlighted that, in accordance with Article 220, directives had been issued to all deputy commissioners to ensure full cooperation with the ECP, aiming to conduct secure and transparent elections.
