Five killed in terrorist attack during Majlis in Oman
The Royal Oman Police said that there were reports of firing at a mosque in Wadi Al-Kabeer area, in which 5 people were initially killed and dozens injured
Muscat: Five people were killed and 15 injured as a result of a terrorist attack during the Majlis at the Imam Ali Mosque in Wadi Al-Kabeer area of Oman.
According to the report of the foreign news agency, unknown persons opened fire at the Imam Ali Mosque in Wadi Al-Kabeer in Muscat, the capital of Oman.
At the time of the terrorist attack, the Majlis was going on in the mosque, in which more than 700 people were present. As a result of the firing, five people were killed and more than 15 were injured, including mostly Pakistanis.
The Royal Oman Police said that there were reports of firing at a mosque in Wadi Al-Kabeer area, in which 5 people were initially killed and dozens injured.
It is pertinent to note that such attacks are rare in the Sultanate of Oman, which regularly acts as a mediator in regional disputes.
The US embassy in Muscat issued a security alert following the shooting incident and canceled all visa appointments on Tuesday.
The embassy wrote on the social media platform 'X' that American citizens should be vigilant, and fully follow the instructions of local authorities.
AFP reported that people were seen fleeing from the Imam Ali mosque after the shooting, while gunshots were heard continuously, while people left chanting Ya Hussain, Ya Hussain.
A police statement said that all necessary safety measures and procedures have been taken to deal with the situation, while the incident is being investigated and evidence is being gathered.
