Munir Akram praises UNRWA's role as lifeline for Palestinian refugees
The Pakistan Permanent Representative to the United Nations and Acting Chair of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation reiterates the unwavering commitment to upholding the rights of Palestinian refugees including their right to return.
New York: Pakistan on Tuesday underscored the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) enduring support for United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
In a statement at the informal plenary meeting at the General Assembly, Pakistan Permanent Representative to the United Nations and Acting Chair of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Munir Akram reiterated the unwavering commitment to upholding the rights of Palestinian refugees including their right to return.
Expressing gratitude to the President for convening the meeting to discuss UNRWA, Ambassador Akram commended Commissioner General Lazzarini for his important briefing.
He extended heartfelt appreciation to UNRWA for its crucial role in providing services and relief to the distressed population of Gaza.
He praised UNRWA's role as a lifeline for Palestinian refugees over the past 75 years, providing vital humanitarian relief to millions, despite the ongoing brutal onslaught by Israeli forces.
Emphasizing the urgent need for sustained funding for UNRWA, Ambassador Munir Akram urged donors to reconsider their decision to suspend funds.
He also called for decisive action to hold Israel accountable for its human rights violations and war crimes in Gaza and the West Bank.
Ambassador Munir Akram demanded an immediate ceasefire and the provision of emergency humanitarian assistance to the besieged people of Gaza, facilitated by UNRWA.
