PAECO platform must be used to cope with challenges, asserts PM
Prime Minister Imran Khan Khan Wednesday congratulated the Parliamentary Assembly Economic Cooperation Organization (PAECO) on the adoption of the Joint Charter in the Parliamentary Assembly.
He said that it is not the countries in the world that develops but regions and such opportunity will provide prospects to our region.
Addressing the concluding session of the PAECO Parliamentary Assembly in Islamabad, Prime Minister Imran Khan welcomed all the representatives of the member countries and the parliamentarians visiting Pakistan.
Imran Khan said that PAECO should be used for collective efforts to cope with the common challenges including climate change, water crisis and poverty alleviation.
The Prime Minister said the population of the region is 450 million and every country of the region can benefit from this huge population utilizing their potential in different sectors.
He said many countries are facing water shortage due to global warming and parliamentary integration among ECO member countries will help resolve challenges in a befitting manner.
The premier said Pakistan is working on a mega project of a billion tree tsunami program and it will plant 10 billion trees in the country in five years.
Increasing economic cooperation and trade among the member states will lead to an economic revolution in the region, added PM.
He wished that the withdrawal of NATO and US troops from Afghanistan should be a peaceful transition.
