Elected members filed plea in PHC regarding oath

Peshawar: Elected members have filed petition of contempt of court in Peshawar high court (PHC) on the matter of not taking oath from members on reserve seats of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) assembly.

According to the details, elected members filed this contempt of court plea in PHC against speaker and deputy speaker.

It is stated in the plea that despite the court orders the oath has not been taken from members. Speaker and deputy speaker violated the courts’ orders by not giving the members their right of vote in senate elections.

Applicants said that the action should be taken against speaker and deputy speaker in contempt of court case and termed them ineligible.

It should be noted that PHC’s two-member bench had directed speaker provincial assembly to take oath from newly elected members provincial assembly on reserve seats.

Court had ordered that applicants should be providing facilities in this process as well as to give the permission of casting vote in senate elections.
