PPP leader expresses concerns over implementation of Essential Services Act in PIA
Chaudhary Manzoor Ahmad criticizes the government for resorting to the act out of fear following a press conference, calling for its immediate repeal
Lahore: Chaudhry Manzoor Ahmad, Central Executive Committee Member of the Pakistan Peoples Party and Incharge of the People's Labour Bureau, has condemned the imposition of martial law through the implementation of the Essential Services Act (ESA) in PIA.
He criticized the government for resorting to the act out of fear following a press conference, calling for its immediate repeal.
Chaudhry Manzoor questioned the contradiction of deeming the institution vital for the country and defense while simultaneously planning to sell it off. He labeled the act as a mere tactic to undermine human and democratic rights of workers.
He further argued that this move is not genuine privatization but rather a self-purchase of the institution, expressing his opposition to all forms of privatization. He vowed to resist any attempts at privatization.
Manzoor also criticized the silence of the Pakistan People's Party’s three-member committee, which was formed prior to the act's enforcement. He urged the committee to clarify their stance and reject the act.
He stressed that it is the party's duty to oppose this bill in Parliament and prevent its passage. The workers across Pakistan, particularly in PIA, were questioning the committee’s silence. Manzoor concluded by stating that they would not allow the institution to be sold under any circumstances or to favor any particular buyer.
