Iftikhar Sajid, a member of the National Highway Authority (NHA) while talking to GNN has acknowledged the issue

Lahore: The Lahore-Abdul Hakeem Motorway (M3), constructed six years ago, is now facing significant deterioration. The potholes emerged on various sections of the motorway, causing severe inconvenience to the public.
Constructed in 2019 at a cost of 148 billion rupees, the M3 motorway was a significant infrastructure project aimed at improving connectivity and reducing travel time. However, the recent development of potholes has raised concerns about the quality and maintenance of the road.
In a telephonic conversation with GNN, Iftikhar Sajid, a member of the National Highway Authority (NHA), acknowledged the issue. He clarified that the potholes have been identified in the service areas of the motorway, not on the main carriageway.
“The handover process of the motorway has not yet been completed,” Sajid explained, adding that the Motorway M3 was constructed by a Chinese company in collaboration with a Pakistani company. He said Construction Company did not issue yet completion certificate for the motorway.
Until the completion certificate is issued, the responsibility for road maintenance lies with the respective contractor. Sajid emphasized that road deterioration is a common issue and ruled out the likelihood of using substandard materials in the construction.
The public continued to face difficulties due to the poor condition of the motorway, highlighting the need for prompt action to address these issues and ensure safe travel conditions.
