FAFEN report on 100-day performance of NA
It has also been reported that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif attended only two out of 23 sessions of the National Assembly
Islamabad: Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) released a report on the performance of the first 100 days of the National Assembly.
According to FAFEN’s report, the legislative process was slow in the first 100 days of the National Assembly, and the delay in the formation of standing committees also affected the performance of the Assembly.
The FAFEN report states that the ban on citizens' access to the gallery of the National Assembly under the guise of security concerns also affected the performance.
The report added that in total, the House held 23 meetings covering 66 hours and 33 minutes. 159 (51 percent) of the existing 310 members of the House actively participated in the meetings. The average attendance of members in the House was 231, out of which the highest is 302 and the lowest is 176.
It has also been reported that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif attended only two out of 23 sessions of the National Assembly, which is 10 percent. While in the past, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif attended 26 percent and Imran Khan 29 percent of the sessions.
The report told that Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Deputy Speaker presided over 82 percent of proceedings, while opposition leader Omar Ayub's attendance in the House was 88 percent, while only 29 members of the assembly attended 100 percent.
