PTI moves against ECP chief, members in SJC
PTI's General Secretary, Omar Ayub, submitted the complaint through Barrister Ali Zafar
Islamabad: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Saturday has filed a complaint with the Supreme Judicial Council against the Chief Election Commissioner and members.
PTI's General Secretary, Omar Ayub, submitted the complaint through Barrister Ali Zafar.
PTI's complaint highlights events before and after the elections, alleging that the Election Commission failed to conduct free and fair elections.
In its complaint, PTI claims that their polling agents were removed from polling stations and that the Election Commission did not follow the law in announcing the results, ignoring pre-poll rigging.
PTI further alleges that their members were pressured to switch loyalties, nomination papers were taken from PTI candidates, workers were kidnapped, and media coverage of PTI was restricted. Despite these issues, the Election Commission took no action and did not allow PTI to run an effective campaign.
The complaint states that media and polling agents were not given Form 45 on time, returning officers were appointed based on political affiliations, and the Election Commission not only excluded PTI from elections but also took away reserved seats. The Election Commission is also accused of actively opposing PTI in court cases.
PTI has requested an inquiry into the misconduct of the Chief Election Commissioner and members and, if the allegations are proven, recommends their removal from office.
