Pobga, who is a French professional footballer and plays for Premier League club Manchester United and France’s national team, removed a bottle of non-alcoholic Heineken beer that was placed in front of him.

Following the act of removing the drink, Heineken said: "We fully respect everyone's decision when it comes to their beverage of choice."

He was repeating the act of Portuguese star footballer Ronaldo who had moved the two drinks on display out of view as he sat down to take questions from the media.

The Juventus star had moved forward by holding up a bottle of water saying, “Agua! (Water!)”.

On the other hand, Cristiano Ronaldo’s snub had a massive impact on the brand and coincided with a $4bn fall in the share price of the company.

Ronaldo is a pop culture colossus, boasting almost 300 million Instagram followers.

Meanwhile, Coca Cola issued a statement and said that players are offered water, alongside ‘Coca Cola’ and ‘Coca Cola Zero Sugar’ on arrival at their press conferences.

The company said that “everyone is entitled to their drink preferences” and that everyone has different “tastes and needs”.
