Political parties name their members for parliamentary committee to appoint CJP
All major parties have given their names for a 12-member parliamentary committee
Islamabad: As per a requirement under the recenty passed 26th amendment, politcal parties have given their names for a 12-member parliamentary committee for the appointment of the new chief justice of the Supreme Court.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Pakistan Peoples Party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam have given the names of their members for the parliamentary committee.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz
From the ruling PML-N, names of Khawaja Asif, Ahsan Iqbal, Shaista Parvez Malik and Senator Azam Nazir Tarar were given on behalf of PML-N.
Pakistan Peoples Party
Former PM Raja Pervez Ashraf, Farooq H Naik and Syed Naveed Qamar were nominated on behalf of the PPP.
Sunni Itehad Council
Barrister Gohar and Sahibzada Hamid Raza would represent the Sunni Ittehad Council at the parliamentary committee.
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam
JUI-F has nominated Senator Kamran Murtaza to be a part of the committee.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf
Senator Ali Zafar has been nominated by the PTI for the parliamentary committee.
Muttahida Qaumi Movement
Rana Ansar, a woman member of the MQM, has been nominated as a member of the parliamentary committee.
It should be remembered that the 12-member special parliamentary committee will select the Chief Justice of Pakistan from the panel of three most senior judges.
