Residents complain that there is no official mechanism in place to regulate the prices of sacrificial animals


(Web Desk): In Karachi, the sale of small and large sacrificial animals has begun ahead of Eid al-Adha, as people prepare to fulfill the tradition of Sunnat-e-Ibrahimi. As Eid draws nearer, the demand and sale of animals are increasing steadily.
This year, prices of sacrificial animals have seen a sharp rise of 50 to 70 percent compared to last year. It has become extremely difficult to find even a low-weight heifer for under Rs100,000 in livestock markets. The minimum price for a heifer is now around Rs140,000, while goats are starting from Rs40,000.
Residents complain that there is no official mechanism in place to regulate the prices of sacrificial animals. Sellers are demanding prices at their discretion, and deals are only being finalized after lengthy negotiations between buyers and sellers.
Livestock traders argue that the surge in prices is due to the high cost of raising animals, transportation, taxes, and other contributing factors.
