Pakistan Navy’s third Hangor-Class submarine launched

Islamabad: The launching ceremony of the third Hangor-class submarine, PNS Mangro, was held at the Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group Company Ltd, Shuangliu Base, in Wuhan, China. Vice Admiral Abdul Samad, Deputy Chief of Naval Staff (Projects–2), graced the occasion as the chief guest.

Addressing the ceremony, the chief guest emphasised the importance of maritime security in light of the prevailing geo-strategic environment of the region.

He reaffirmed the Pakistan Navy’s commitment to safeguarding national interests while promoting a secure and cooperative maritime domain.

Referring to the Hangor-class submarines, Vice Admiral Abdul Samad highlighted that these state-of-the-art vessels, equipped with the latest weapon systems and sensors, would play a crucial role in maintaining the balance of power, as well as peace and stability in the region.

He lauded the relentless efforts of China Shipbuilding & Offshore International Company Ltd (CSOC) and expressed satisfaction over the progress of the project, noting that the Hangor-class submarine programme would add a new dimension to the enduring Pakistan–China partnership.

The Government of Pakistan had signed an agreement with CSOC for the acquisition of eight Hangor-class submarines. Under the contract, four are being built in China, while the remaining four will be constructed in Pakistan at Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works Ltd (KS&EW) under a Transfer of Technology (ToT) arrangement.

The ceremony was attended by senior officials from both Pakistan and China, including representatives from Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group Company Ltd and CSOC.
