Rawalpindi: Firing at motorway police officer's vehicle leaves PAS officer martyred, Additional IG wounded

Islamabad: A civil servant was martyred while his brother, who is senior officer with the National Highways and Motorway Police, suffered injuries after unidentified car-occupiers opened fire on them on M-1 near Fateh Jang in Rawalpindi on Friday.

Additional IG National Highways and Motorways Police Sajjad Afzal Afridi was admitted to PIMS hospital with two bullet wounds.

"Addl. IG NHMP Sajjad Afzal Afridi while chasing a suspect vehicle on M1, has been fired at. He has received two bullets, critical and shifted to PIMS. Addl IGs younger brother Nauman a PAS officer who accompanied him has sadly succumbed to his injuries," said a tweet shared by the National Highways & Motorway Police (NHMP).

Nauman Afridi belonged to the Pakistan Adminsitrative Service (PAS) group.

Rawalpindi police teams and forensic experts are on the crime scene for collection of necessray evidence. There are reports that four suspects riding the car, fled after leaving the car abandoned. The car was seized later.   

The condition of injured police officer is stated to be out of danger after he was operated upon at the hospital. 

Inspector General of Punjab Police Rao Sardar Ali Khan took notice of the incident and sought report from the Rawalpindi RPO. He directed the police to arrested the accused as soon as possible.
