Each year on 20th Safar-ul-Muzaffar, Chehlum observance takes place 40 days after the Day of Ashura and commemorates the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions by Yazidi forces in the Battle of Karbala in 61 A.H.


Lahore: The Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and 72 other martyrs of Karbala is being observed with traditional religious solemnity and spirit on Tuesday (September 28) amidst strict security measures.
Each year on 20th Safar-ul-Muzaffar, Chehlum observance takes place 40 days after the Day of Ashura and commemorates the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions by Yazidi forces in the Battle of Karbala in 61 A.H.
Meanwhile, the Sindh government has put a ban on pillion riding for today under Section 144. In this regard, a notification has already been issued according to which families, senior citizens, journalists and government officials are exempted from the ban.
Moreover, additional contingents of police and Rangers personnel have been deployed at Numaish and its adjoining areas of the metropolis.
As per security plan, more than 5,000 policemen are deployed on the routes connecting to the venue of Chehlum’s central procession, whereas, over 1,500 traffic police personnel are performing duties today.
The government is expected to shut down the mobile phone service in certain areas following security arrangements to avert possible subversion at religious gatherings.
Various majalis and gatherings will be held in different city Imambargahs to commemorate the Karbala incident.
