Islamabad:  A Joint Session of the Parliament will be held at the parliament house in Islamabad on Wednesday (today) to get controversial bills, including use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), passed.

As per details, the session will start at 12.00pm and take up important legislation including the Elections (Amendment) Bill 2021 and the Elections Second Amendment Bill 2021.

These electoral reforms bills provide for the use of latest technology in the elections besides granting right of vote to overseas Pakistanis.

On Tuesday, the President Dr Arif Alvi formally summoned the joint session of parliament to take up more than two dozen crucial bills, including the electoral reforms bills, which have either lapsed or were rejected by the Senate.

It is pertinent to mention here that, the government had previously postponed the joint session after some of its allies expressed their reservations over the proposed electoral reforms bills regarding the use of EVMs and the introduction of e-voting for expats in the next elections.
