Islamabad: The government is likely to increase the price of electricity up to Rs4.33, which will put an additional burden of 40 billion rupees on already suffering people.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has submitted an application under monthly fuel adjustment in November. National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) is currently hearing CPPA's petition seeking price hike.
According to the CPPA, a total of about 8.24 billion units of electricity were generated in November. Last month, the cost of power generation was 66.52 billion.
Electricity from Diesel was produced at Rs22.62 per unit and furnace oil at Rs18.24 per unit. Power generation from LPG cost Rs13.44.
In November, 33.21 per cent electricity was generated from water and 16.26 per cent from coal. 1.71% electricity generated from Furnace oil while domestic gas generated 12.89%.
14.25% of electricity was generated from imported LNG while 17.51% of electricity was generated from nuclear fuel.
