UNGA adopts resolution urging int’l community to boost aid to flood-hit Pakistan
The resolution was co-sponsored by a large 159 countries from all regions of the world.
New York: The United Nations General Assembly has urged the world community to scale up its humanitarian assistance to Pakistan, to support the rehabilitation and reconstruction in the areas devastated by climate-induced monsoon rains and floods.
The 193-member General Assembly adopted the Pakistan-sponsored resolution in this regard by consensus and expressed full solidarity with flood-hit Pakistani people.
The resolution was co-sponsored by a large 159 countries from all regions of the world.
Introducing the resolution, Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Munir Akram said countries, like Pakistan, which confront the climate-induced disasters, should not be left alone.
He drew attention to the havoc wrought by the raging flood waters, and called for international support to help Pakistan cope with the calamity.
