He said that the only way to a safe and prosperous Pakistan would be paved with respect for human rights.
New York: United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) Volker Türk said that the current situation in Pakistan is a cause of deep concern as rule of law in Pakistan is under serious threat.
While addressing a press conference in Geneva, the United Nations High Commissioner Volker Türk stated: “The news of increasing violence and mass arrests in Pakistan is disturbing”.
“The intention of Pakistani government to use military courts to try civilians is a grave violation of its obligations under international human rights law,” Türk added.
Volker further said that former Prime Minister Imran Khan claims that Pakistan has been pushed into complete lawlessness.
He said that the only way to a safe and prosperous Pakistan would be paved with respect for human rights, democratic process and rule of law.
