AJK Legislative Assembly to elect new PM today
Speaker Ch. Anwar-ul-Haq will chair the session.
Muzaffarabad: Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly will meet in Muzaffarabad today (Monday) to elect a new Prime Minister of the state for rest of the constitutional period, ending in June 2026.
The office has fallen vacant due to resignation of AJK Prime Minister Sardar Abdul Qayyum Niazi.
The President of AJK Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry summoned Legislative Assembly session on today at 10.30 am, in quick compliance upon the April 16 orders of the Supreme Court (SC).
Speaker Ch. Anwar-ul-Haq will chair the session.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has nominated Sardar Tanveer Ilyas, Member of the Legislative Assembly from Poonch Division, as candidate of the party for the office.
Moreover, the opposition parties in AJK Legislative Assembly, comprising Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have announced to boycott the election.
