Karachi admin initiates major anti-encroachment operation along Gujjar Nullah
Karachi: A major anti-encroachment drive has begun from today along Gujjar Nullah.
According to details, heavy machinery has been deployed along the nullah and the operation will be headed by senior director anti-encroachment department Bashir Ahmed Siddiqui.
As per officials, encroachments at Gujjar Nullah have been divided in three parts for the operation.
Reportedly, the first phase of the operation will be launched between Shafeeque More to Landi Kotal Chowrangi; the second phase will cover the area from Landi Kotal Chowrangi to DMC office and the final phase of will be from the DMC office to the Lyari River.
In order to maintain law and order, paramilitary rangers have been summoned to maintain law and order. Moreover, SSP Central and D.G. Enforcement’s teams have also been called for the anti-encroachment operation.
Karachi’s poor drainage system was exposed badly following the devastating monsoon rains being poured in the city last year.
The experts recommended restoring the rain-drains and storm-water drainage in their original shape by removing the structures flanked by nullahs.
