DG Parliamentary Affairs Rai Mumtaz arrested ahead of Punjab Assembly session
LAHORE: Just a few hours before the Punjab assembly session on Sunday, police arrested DG Parliamentary Affairs Rai Mumtaz while raiding the residence of Secretary Assembly and Secretary Coordination.


A spokesperson of Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi said that the police arrested Mumtaz in a raid at his place.
Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi on Sunday directed the Punjab lawmakers associated with Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf to attend the assembly session today.
He has directed members to be there at 12. “We will see who can stop elected legislators from entering the assembly,” the speaker Punjab assembly reportedly said. “We will strongly challenge this government’s fascism.”
Elahi claimed that the Punjab Police have taken complete control of the assembly.
Meanwhile, Punjab Police cordoned off the assembly with a heavy contingent. The assembly staffers have complained that they are not being given access to the workplace. Moreover, all roads leading to the assembly have been blocked.
According to the assembly’s agenda, a no-confidence vote against Speaker Pervaiz Elahi is scheduled today.
