"The planet's health must be safeguarded as the Earth’s natural systems cannot keep up with our demands."
New York: World Environment Day is being observed today (Sunday) to raise awareness about the importance of protecting the natural environment from the negative effects of human development.
This year's theme of the World Environment Day "Only One Earth" calls for transformative changes to policies and choices to enable cleaner, greener, and sustainable living in harmony with nature.
The UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, in his message on the occasion, has said the planet's health must be safeguarded as the Earth’s natural systems cannot keep up with our demands.
He said this planet is our only home and it is vital for us to safeguard the health of its atmosphere, the richness and diversity of life, its ecosystems, and its finite resources.
