Indian Wrestler Ritika Phogat ends life by committing suicide
New Delhi: Ritika Phogat, a budding wrestler and cousin of the celebrated Phogat sisters, Geeta, Babita, Ritu, Sangeeta and Vinesh, has allegedly committed suicide.
According to details, the incident took place in Haryana’s Balali village Charkhi Dadri district, where the 17-year-old ended her life on the night of March 15 at around 11pm.
Reportedly, Ratika has lost a match in the final round of a wrestling tournament in Rajasthan.
She was staying at her uncle’s place where she committed suicide by hanging from a fan after the defeat.
The news of Rikita’s demise was confirmed by her cousin Geeta Phogat in an Instagram post who said that it is a sad occasion for the whole family.
She further said that Ratika was a brave, fearless, promising and intelligent wrestler and it is unclear why she took such an extreme step.
Ritika is survived by her father, mother and four younger siblings including two brothers and two sisters. They are all residing in Jaitpur village in Rajasthan district.
