Islamabad: PTI Chairman and former Prime Minister Imran Khan has said the Election Commission of Pakistan had leveled stupid allegations against the PTI, and that appointing Sikandar Sultan as the Chief Election Commissioner was a big mistake.

In an interview given to a private news channel, the former premier said the country's economy is more important than the appointment of the army chief.

"We shouldn't think about November, rather we should think about now because the situation is very bad and inflation is increasing day by day. The people's problems are increasing so we should think about the economy as the position of our country is going down with each passing day."

Khan said said the only solution to all the problems was immediate and transparent elections.

The PTI stalwart said the EC was involved in a conspiracy with the incumbant government. When they [the govt] participated in the regime-change conspiracy, they thought our party will come to an end,” he said. “After that, they thought they would win the by-elections, but they lost that too. so now, they have opted for a technical knockout.”

"We will go to the Supreme Judicial Council against the Chief Election Commissioner and will also hold a peaceful protest outside the Election Commission tomorrow."

Imran was of the view that while the army played an important part in the country’s national security, economic stability was equally important.

“We have to choose -- either we want stability or a new army chief?” he said in response to a question.

He then went on to give the example of the Soviet Union, that according to him, broke apart due to economic instability.

Replying to a question on the recent American drone strike in Afghanistan which killed Al Qaeda leader Ayman al Zawahiri, Imran said he wasn’t aware if Pakistan had provided its “airspace” to the US.

He said but if the "airspace" had been provided, this could seriously damage Pakistan relations with China.
