Epic Games files complaint against Apple with UK regulator
Epic Games, the developer of popular battle royal game ‘Fortnite’ has filed a complaint with Britain’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) against Apple, accusing it of monopolistic practices.
According to details, game developer told the CMA that Apple was guilty of anticompetitive behavior and prohibitively restrictive rules over the way it runs its App Store, terming it a ‘clear violation’ of British law.
Epic Games stated that Apple's actions forbid developers from acquiring or distributing apps through marketplaces other than iPhone’s App Store along with the payment of commissions, reaching 30 per cent of the total revenue.
We have filed a complaint in support of the @CMAgovUK investigation into Apple’s anticompetitive practices. We believe UK developers should be able to compete in a fair marketplace, and UK consumers should not have to pay inflated prices for digital goods https://t.co/TOYwFJEpzL

Earlier in August, Fortnite developer looked to circumvent Apple's payment technology on its iOS operating system.
Following which, iPhone manufacturer immediately removed Fortnite from its App Store, and claimed that it is a breach of contract between the two companies.
Moreover, streaming service Spotify and the social media giant Facebook have also criticized Apple for stifling competition, accusing it of imposing rules on external developers that it does not follow itself.
Meanwhile, the iPhone developer has accused Epic of wanting to operate under a different set of rules from other developers.
However, Epic Games has already launched other legal proceedings in the United States, the European Union, Australia and Britain against both Apple and Google.
