Pakistan may lift ban on import of cotton, sugar from India
Islamabad: The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet will take up two summaries of the commerce and textile ministry to lift ban on import of cotton and white sugar from India on Wednesday.
As per details, Pakistan is considering reopening Indo-Pak trade as the bilateral trade between Pakistan and India remained suspended from 2019.
The commerce and textile ministry submitted a summary on the Strategic Trade Policy Framework (STPF). The decision to consider lifting the ban from India come as a relief for the textile and commerce sector, which seeks access to cheap raw materials.
As per summary, the trade sector foresees over Rs. 01 trillion support from STPF.
In addition, the summary also sought permission to allow import of white sugar from India through the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP).
The ECC approval was also sought to register pink rock salt as a geographical indication by Pakistan.
There are also summaries regarding approval of technical supplementary grants for various divisions.
Prime Minister Imran Khan, as in-charge of the Commerce and Textile Ministry, has already approved the summary.
