Toshakhana Case: ECP's appeal for early hearing dismissed
ECP’s lawyer said that the appeal was filed on merits and decisions of the Supreme Court.
Islamabad: District and Sessions Court of Islamabad Tuesday rejected the Election Commission of Pakistan's (ECP) appeal to consider the Tosha Khana case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan for early hearing, GNN reported.
Additional Sessions Judge Zafar Iqbal of District and Sessions Court of Islamabad heard the case for early hearing in which Imran Khan's lawyers Khawaja Haris and Faisal Chaudhry appeared in the court.
At the beginning of the hearing, judge Zafar asked Imran’s lawyers what is their say about the plea for early hearing of Tosha Khana case.
Responding to which Imran Khan's lawyers said that what is the justification for setting an early hearing? Money will be wasted, first ECP took the date of April 29, and two days later they thought that the date should be fixed soon.
On this occasion, lawyer Amjad Pervez of ECP replied that it is wrong to accuse the Commission of discrimination.
He stated: “Supreme Court decided that the trial court should decide on corrupt practices within three months as once a complaint is filed, a decision should be made within three months”.
Election Commission's application was filed on merits and decisions of the Supreme Court, lawyer Amjad added.
Later, after hearing the arguments of the lawyers, the court reserved the verdict and said that the verdict will be pronounced in 10 minutes.
After the prescribed time, the court rejected the request of Election Commission to set the Tosha Khana case for early hearing.
