Government places Ahsan Iqbal’s name on ECL
Islamabad: Through circulation summary, the federal cabinet has approved to put Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) General Secretary Ahsan Iqbal on Exit Control List (ECL).
As per details, the interior ministry has included the name of PML-N leader in no-fly list on the request of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) over Narowal sports city case.
However, the case was being heard by an accountability court in Islamabad and the cabinet approved the decision on Friday.
It is pertinent to mention here that NAB had alleged PML-N leader of illegally initiating a project of Rs 3 billion in Narowal and causing a loss worth billions to the national exchequer.
As a part of the project, fourteen stadiums were meant to be constructed.
According to NAB, the sports city project was directed by Ahsan Iqbal without any feasibility in 1999. The bureau said it had received a complaint of embezzlement.
In April 2018, Rs2.9 billion project was inaugurated by former president Mamnoon Hussain.
The project was initially approved at a cost of Rs34.74 million by Central Development Working Party (CDWP).
The Ahsan Iqbal illegally directed the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) and NESPAK to increase the project’s scope, enhancing the cost to Rs97.52 million.
