Islamabad: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested a most wanted human smuggler on Friday.
The authorities said had been involved in smuggling people to Libya, including those who had died in a shipwreck earlier this year.
The Gujrat circle of the FIA has detained Javed Hussain, the most wanted human trafficker who was involved in the Libyan boat accident, according to a statement from the anti-crime organization.
The agency claims that the suspect who was apprehended was also listed in the Red Book of Most Wanted Human Traffickers and was wanted in seven other Gujrat instances. Following the Greece boat catastrophe, the accused disappeared.
He served as the "front man" for one of the most sought human traffickers, Hamza Sunyara, who operates from Libya.
The suspect "was involved in illegally sending innocent citizens from Libya to Europe from Gujrat," according to the FIA.
"The suspect was running an international human trafficking network."
This year, there have been two major cases of boats crashing in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Libya, each resulting in the deaths of numerous Pakistanis. The first event happened in February, and the second one happened in April.
