PMD predicts stormy rains across the country
PDMA issues high alerts to the respective departments.
Islamabad: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a warning of strong winds and heavy rains expected across the country from today until September 20.
The forecast includes intermittent rain accompanied by gusty winds during this period, with the entrance of westerly winds into the upper regions of the country from September 16.
In response to the rain forecast, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has declared a high alert.
The PDMA has highlighted that monsoon winds from the Bay of Bengal will enter the upper regions, increasing the risk of flooding in rivers.
Additionally, vulnerable infrastructure, such as solar panels, faces the threat of damage from gales and strong winds.
The meteorological department has instructed all relevant institutions to remain vigilant during this weather event.
PDMA has activated district emergency operation centers, including the provincial control room, to monitor and respond to potential emergencies.
In hilly areas like Murree, there is a risk of landslides, and tourists and travelers are urged to exercise caution.
The heavy rains could also pose a threat to fruit orchards and vegetable crops.
The Director-General of PDMA has directed concerned districts to keep staff and machinery on high alert.
Municipal bodies are advised to prevent water stagnation in low-lying areas.
During the rainy period, officers will be in the field to oversee activities, and the PDMA helpline (1129) will be available for reporting civil emergencies.
