Lahore: Pakistan Cricket Team Chief Selector Inzemamul Haq has resigned from his office and sent the copy of the resignation to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee.

The chief selector of the Pakistan cricket team, Inzamam-ul-Haq, has submitted his resignation to Zaka Ashraf, the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). This decision comes in the wake of allegations that Inzamam had financial interests in a players' agent company known as Yazo International Limited. These allegations raised concerns about a potential conflict of interest, as Talha Rehmani, a key figure in Yazo International Limited, represents several top Pakistani players, including Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Shah Afridi.
In his statement, Mr. Haq has called for the PCB to conduct a thorough inquiry into the matter and has expressed his willingness to cooperate with the investigation. He has also challenged those making the accusations to provide concrete evidence, vehemently denying any association with the players' agent company, stating that such allegations are hurtful.
Inzamam-ul-Haq mentioned that he was informed by the PCB that a five-member fact-finding committee had been established to investigate these allegations. In light of this development, he deemed it appropriate to step down from his position until the investigation is concluded. He expressed his intention to make himself available for service again once the inquiry has been completed.
This resignation comes at a critical juncture for the Pakistan cricket team, as they have recently suffered four consecutive defeats in a major tournament. It is noteworthy that Inzamam-ul-Haq chose not to wait for the tournament to conclude before resigning. This abrupt departure raises concerns about the potential impact on the team's performance, particularly since the Pakistan team is scheduled to play three more matches in the ongoing event.
On the other hand, the PCB has released a statement confirming the formation of a five-member fact-finding committee to investigate the alleged conflict of interest in the team selection process, as reported in the media. The committee is tasked with expeditiously examining the matter and providing its report and any recommendations to the PCB management.
