Third resolution moved to Senate seeking delay in upcoming elections
Senator Hilalur Rehman, a member of the Independent Parliamentary Group, submitted the resolution, citing severe cold weather, snowfall, and security challenges as obstacles to the general elections.
Islamabad: A third resolution advocating a postponement of the February 8 polls was presented in the Senate on Sunday, attributing the move to challenging weather conditions and security concerns in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Senator Hilalur Rehman, a member of the Independent Parliamentary Group, submitted the resolution, citing severe cold weather, snowfall, and security challenges as obstacles to the general elections.
The resolution emphasized that the harsh weather conditions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were preventing citizens from casting their votes, and candidates were grappling with numerous challenges in conducting their campaigns.
“Security concerns in the country, especially in KP, pose threats of terrorist attacks to candidates during their campaigns, creating obstacles and limiting their participation,” stated the resolution. It argued that the scheduled date of February 8 for the elections was not conducive to a fair and comprehensive electoral process.
It is noteworthy that earlier this month, the Upper House of Parliament passed a resolution, initiated by independent Senator Dilawar Khan during a session with a limited number of lawmakers present. The resolution sought a delay in the polls, considering the extreme weather conditions in hilly areas and the deteriorating security situation.
